As many of you have heard, Misled Youth is moving into a storefront space in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn along with A New World In Our Hearts and the Freegan Bike Workshop. The tentative name of this center is 123, from our street address. We are planning to organize community art projects, hands-on classes and workshops, and lots of exciting events at 123. Currently we are setting up an art studio and screen printing shop where people can create posters and t-shirts. We have permission to paint a 30 x 50 foot mural on the side of our building facing Myrtle Avenue, and are looking for the paint, scaffolding, and people to help make that happen.
People have already offered to bring poetry, literacy, music, dance, and visual arts activities into the space. We are looking for individuals and groups who are interested in bringing activities on these topics and others such photography, language, health, cooking (we have a small kitchen), history, current events, media, and more. We are spending August preparing 123 to be used, and plan to start these public activities in early September, coinciding with the beginning of the school year. Whether you can bring a two hour workshop or a six week series, we are inviting you to share your skills, knowledge, and curiosity at 123 Tompkins starting this fall. We are looking for hands-on workshops, discussions, study groups, and collaborative projects that are inspiring, participatory, and that value the knowledge and ability of everyone involved. We are also interested in booking performances, readings, film screenings, and art exhibits at 123. Please get in touch if you or someone you know would be interested bringing any of these things to the space at some point in the future. We will be creating a calendar of events and activities happening in the space starting in September.
Thanks for your support!
