I was thinking about fun ways to make money other than just having shows. A silly/fun idea crossed my mind. A weird fashion show. We could be serious about it and ask upcoming designers and youth to participate. It would be something totally new for us, it would be a way to support the arts around the city and it could be a whole lot of fun. WHOS WITH ME?

sounds cool

i like the idea of an alternative fashion show, and making clothes. my question is, how does it raise money? is there and entrance fee? I have a sewing machine we could use, I was thinking of bringing it to 123

yeah there would be an entrance fee, all clothes could be sold, i dont know if any would be bought tho. We could bring it to 123. Space wise, idk, i was thinking wider and bigger. Maybe we could do it at 123 and have an after party somewhere else and make more money? people could come and meet the designers and fashion models. Fun fun. Lets make it happen. Dec is show less but January makes up for it and Screenprinting 101 is about all im good for this moth anyway.

I like this. this is exactly

I like this. this is exactly what I was talking about when i suggested that we alternate shows where we have a lot to handle with something kind of low key with less stress for us. it would be pretty fun. we should discuss it next meeting.

i think this could be really cool and we can talk about at it the mtg tommorow
as far as the pieces being sold, it could be tricky depending on the type of clothes. T-shirts are easy but one-of-a-kinda, custom clothes often only really fit the person who made them, not only in terms of size but also style. So i see the show more as an inspiration and celebration than as selling a product. There is this guy Des from the neighborhood who's a professional tailor and a while back he offered some kind of sewing class. Not that it just has to come from him as a professional. I see the clothes making as a fun collective process we can do at the space and also at home. There's this thing called swap-o-rama-ramathat we can get ideas from.
I've been thinking for a while about some kinda of sewing/craft group thing for women and girls. So this might sorta exclude Gabe, but perhaps at least one of the clothing-making sessions can be for ladies only? My thinking is that a) it would by a cool way for us to bond, and b) clothing and looks can bring up a lot of personal issues for women in particular, so i think it would allow us to feel more comfortable (especially because making clothes often involves standing around half-naked with fabric pinned to yrself!).

so those are my thoughts, let's keep em coming!

img lad that this seems

img lad that this seems cool. Originally i was like we could ask kids from my school if they would want to get involved, which would be cool cross relationship networking, but the fashion class got canceled. cece and i could still ask around.Word it would be super fun and im all for planning out the details. This could be out febuary event and we could throw a party after, because ive been wanting to do like double things and try to incorporate all factions and things misled youth does into one. Thats why i wanted to do that festival which i still really want to do, wither this summer or next. Lets start with this

FUN

this is so great. We should definitely have a sewing class or a series of sewing sessions. We can incorporate all the designs we have from silkscreening and make fabulous (trying to use appropriate language here) designs with it. After the PIY workshop that ketchup and I did at the Renaissance school, I went back the next day and taught the ladies how to deconstruct t-shirts into halter tops, how to make clothes without sewing and different stitches. This will be a lot of fun!

Fashion shows are always fun

Fashion shows are always fun i know a lot of bars/clubs throw them for local kids who come up with apparel and just to raise money in general, i even donated some designer sunglasses for some of the models to wear.
